Lotus 6 – (1956 #79)

This Lotus 6 restoration has been particularly special; the car came to us with just 2 previous owners, the last one on the log book had owned it for over 43 years, and kindly sent us many photographs of it during his ownership. The car still has all of its original chassis tubes and Williams and Pritchard aluminium body in place, although it shows evidence of being modified over the years to accept different engines and gearboxes.
Riversdale Restoration’s remit for this Lotus 6 restoration project was to carry out a sympathetic restoration to address minor corrosion of the chassis tubes and undertake repairs to the damaged foot well and bulkhead areas. While the engine and gearbox were out, the engine was rebuilt by Sigma Engineering and the Consul gearbox overhauled. The basic interior was re-trimmed and when the torn seat base vinyl was removed the original foam inserts were clearly marked underneath with the date 1956! The Original Williams & Pritchard body has been cleaned and treated in areas of corrosion. Stage 1 of the Lotus 6 restoration is now complete and the car now has an MOT and is seeing regular road use, albeit with the later non- original engine. Stage 2 of the restoration will be to rebuild the original specification Ford Consul engine and TC gearbox, which will be installed prior to the application for HTP papers. Finally we’ll give the Williams and Pritchard panels a good polish and get this very original Lotus back out racing.
